Audio gremlin..
Hey everyone-
For some reason, when I leave my iPod connected to the head unit overnight, it will not work in the morning. The iPod still displays the "Alpine" screen, but the head unit does not recognize the IPOD2 source. This ONLY happens in the morning. If I turn the car off, and turn it right back on, it will still not work, but if I let it sit for a few hours, it will work fine (works great over lunch). When it was not working originally I thought it was just a connection issue with the iPod, but I am not so sure anymore. When I unplug and plug it back in during the morning (hoping it will work), the iPod screen transfers from the "Alpine" screen to the normal iPod screen fine, but when I plug it back in, the iPod does not register the "Alpine" screen. Basically, the unit is not seeing the iPod for some reason, but ONLY in the morning....weird huh.... I have tried jiggling the connections when it was working, trying to get it to blink out on me (confirming a loose connection), but I could not replicate the problem.
Any suggestions? I realize this unit is new, so I might have to call Alpine tech support.
Thanks
John

Sometimes I've gone to my car in the morning and my 9847 would say "No iPod" and I'd have to push the buttons on the iPod to wake it up, but I never disconnected it, so I guess you could try that, but its not really the same.
I just put in the 9885 and so far I haven't had that issue though. iPod2 source? No iPod1 source? The iPod is connected using Alpine's iPod connect cable directly into the unit?

Correct. The IPOD source is for the USB IPOD connection (only works with 5th gen and newer iPods). I will try leaving it unplugged tonight and see if it will work tomorrow morning.
Thanks

Update: Still did not work after leaving unplugged overnight.
I am thinking it might have something to do with the temperature differential from morning to afternoon. The cabin is in the mid 60's in the morning, and well over 100 (judgmental....no thermometer) by lunch. I think the connection at the back of the head unit might be off JUST enough that the connection is made when the parts heat up and expand a bit.
Anyone got any other ideas?

I'd still try pressing buttons on the iPod (leave it plugged in all the time) and see if the HU starts to see it - maybe the iPod stops sending a feeder signal even though its getting the Alpine screen.
Is the main iPod cable plugged into anything? Are you sure all the wires are tighly seated?

If I press the buttons while plugged in, nothing, just the Alpine screen (as usual). If I unplug and hit buttons, Alpine screen goes away (as usual), but when re-plugged in, no Alpine screen and no iPod registering on the HU. The iPod cable runs straight from the iPod to the HU (full speed connection), only running under the interior pieces for hiding...
I think if it is not resolved, I will just address it when I re-do my system in a few weeks (Type X components all around, dynamat going in, new trim pieces from Darkknight on order (molded tweets and VAFCII), and new amp (MRV-F545 replacing Hifonics Titan 8800)).
