THere is a Spread Spectrum version and a non-spread spectrum. I have the SS one, and suposedly the range is very high. (1 1/4 miles.)
Overall I am not very impressed with the usage of it. If I pop the trunk it chirps at me to let me know it's unlocked and that it will re-lock itself in a few seconds. If I open a door, this problem goes away.
It has not happened yet, but the side mounted buttons on the remote seem like they would be prone to accidental bumps.
I got it for the range so I am willing to deal with the little quirks. If I were going for just functionality, I would probably have gone with the Viper.
One pretty cool thing with the Compustar is that I can disable the shock and proximity sensors (as they are in the same input on the module) but leave the alarm set. This is handy when the rain is setting off my proc sensor. Fortuantly the car almost never sees rain.
