Amp wiring question
I had asked about wiring a fan to cool a 4-channel amp before, but am a bit confused by what I'm finding.
I have an Alpine 4-channel amp mounted in my toolbox in the trunk. I mounted a boxer fan in the tray above it and extended the tray 3/4 inch using 1/2" x 3/4" wood to allow for air to come into the amp area. I wired the fan to be switched on/off using a 12V/30A automotive relay.
Here's what it looks like:
The electrical connection to the amp is thru 3 wires as you can see in the image. The top (red) is the positive connection from the battery; the bottom (black) is the ground from the battery; and the middle is a "switched" 12V line, which I intend to use to power the relay.
What I expected was that the middle connection would provide 12V only when the RADIO was on, but it turns out it has 12V whenever the CAR is on. I only want the fan to come on only when the RADIO is on. I didn't connect the amp, but wonder if it's possible to have the amp switched on only when the radio is on.
Does this make any sense?

Thats what i thought. They tapped a switched source and didn't use a "trigger" device to that opens power to the remote wire when sound is detected - see PAC TR7.
