other_vortechs2k,

thanks for the technical, fact-based analysis.

00wreckedS,

thanks for your advice.
but given that i don't know much about physics or stereo systems, that i don't want to spend money unnecessarily, and the amp's power requirements, i thought it made great sense that running two 8awg power wires already in place would be a very practical alternative to buying new 4awg wiring. according to other_vortechs2k's post, running two would yield an area of almost 17mm^2 without spending the extra dough to get 22mm^2. the difference here is about 5mm^2 whereas the difference when only running one 8awg is about 14mm^2. i would think these differences would significantly impact resistance levels.
if you immediately thought it was nonsensical, then it must be because you must have more experience in this field than me. but that's why we have this wonderful online forum so nonsensical ideas can be expelled, no?

oth,

thanks for backing me up. hehe.

i understand that 2 8g wires will give you more area than one 4g wire, but you don't want your power travelling down 2 different paths to the same input. this can cause fluctuations in the power transfer, furthermore if you read above 8g is perfect for your setup. 4g is just going overboard a little bit, but not crazy. the idea is trying to have the easiest way for thr power to travel down the line. if your line is too big (area) for the power needed, then it actualy takes longer for the power to travel down the line, and this is with just one line, not even two. with that said if you run two power lines.. are you going to run 2 ground lines?

just my two cents, i do have experience in this field, i deal with it everyday, just tryin to help

My post assumes that the two 8 AWG wires are exactly the same. True, if they're different you might run into issues with one carrying more current than the other. However, if they are approximately the same length and the same material, you're talking about running two wires in parallel. They'll have the same voltage drop and the same current.

This is a simple question and my answer is yes, its okay to use the two 8 AWG wires but the preferred method would be to run a single 4 AWG. Running two ground wires is a different story...bad idea.
