Amp / Stealthbox (Sub) Question
Hi.
I was thinking of swapping out my factory system for:
An Alpine CDA-9815
Focal Polykevlar 165k2s
JL Audio Stealthbox
JL Audio 300/4 Amp
IXOS GT Peformance Amp Kit / Interconnects
I want to use only one amp if possible and only want front speakers and a sub.
By using this amp, I'd have 75 Watt RMS X 2 for the front channels and 150 Watt RMS X 1 for the
JL Audio Stealthbox.
The JL Audio Stealthbox's optimum power is actually 300 Watt RMS (vice the 150 Watt RMS I'd be
providing).
My Questions are as follows:
1. Is the power sufficient for quality sound with the Focal's up front?
2. Is the power sufficient for quality Bass with the Stealthbox?
3. Is there a better amp out there that could get me what I want?
-- I want sufficient power in the fronts and more power to the sub (300 Watt RMS is optimal).
-- I want this item the be in the form of a single Amp.
Please let me know your thoughts on the amp and any other components choices.
Thanks.
Brian

I have 165K2s, a Stealthbox, and a 300/4 amp. However, I'm now using a 500/5 amp. If you use the 300/4, your 3 ohm Stealthbox will get 150W (bridged), but your 4 ohm Focals will only get 28W, due to JL's R.I.P.S. system. Check-out pages 16 and 17 of the 300/4's owner's manual.
I recommend giving the 165K2s the 100W RMS per channel that they can handle. I would also recommend giving the 10W3v2-equipped Stealthbox more than 150W. I'm now doing both by using a 500/5 amp. The Focals are getting 100W each, and the Stealthbox is getting 250W (w/ up to 15dB of boost on tap). Although, I'm not too crazy about how big this amp is. Not to mention the trunk space I've lost w/ the Stealthbox. I can always swap-out for my WLAURENT box when I really need more space, but still want some sub action.

Brian,
My system is far from being picture-worthy right now. I've tried so many different things recently, e.g., amps, subs, rears, that my amp install consists of my 500/5 laying atop my Stealthbox. It's not screwed to anything, it's just sitting there. The wires are loosely laid all around it, and a couple of my trunk lining panels are removed. I'm so tired of messing with my system! I will eventually properly mount the 500/5. I'll probably put it where I had it before, i.e., mounted vertically, next to the spare tire. But for now, it looks like this, plus a 500/5 laying flat, right over the Stealthbox. Let me know if you still want a pic. Hopefully, Woodson's PM was more helpful.

I just installed a Stealthbox using a Rockford Fosgate Punch 501x amp (500W, 4-channel), so I'm driving a bit more to the sub than you'd get with the JL 300/4. That amp cost $349, which I think is similar to the JL amp.
I have Kenwood Excelon p51's in the front running off the same amp, and it's plenty loud enough with plenty of bass. The amp isn't that huge, either. It was mounted directly on top of the stealthbox - so while you don't have the space in the tool well, you don't lose any of the sides or next to the spare.
