Amp Question.....(might seem dumb)
Okay, Ive been trying to install components with an amp and run into quite a few questions.
I am trying to bridge my 4 channel amp to 2 channels to power my components.
Some of these questions almost seems retarded but.....here goes...
First the pic...
1) I bought an amp kit with an 8 gauge power wire. i stripped the wire and tried to put on a Y-connector so i can connect it to the amp. but the y-connector is too small to slide the power wire through. can i just cut part of the power wire so it will fit?
2) according to the diagram for bridging....for example...it says connect the LEFT of channel 2 NEGATIVE to the LEFT of channel 4 POSTIVE.... does it not need to be one positive one negative? how would i connect this to a speaker if both are LEFT's and none RIGHT?
next question
picture....
I have 1 pair of RCA wires (total of 2 'jacks') from HU to amp....but my amp has 4 input 'jacks'..........in order to bridge my amp, how would i need to connect the rca's?
last...
and how does the HU know to send the sound output through the RCA to the amp instead of stock speaker wire?

You are going to lose your stereo seperation if you bridge your components. Sure you'll get more power, but your losing much more in the overall soundstage and quality of the original recording if you happen to listen to tracks that represent a live soundstage.
I wouldnt do it.

With specific regard to the RCA inputs, you may only need the one pair (left/right) plugged into the amp....however, on some amps (newer Alpines) you need a Y-cable.
As far as the HU goes...Alpines typically will send signal to the RCAs at all times but allow the user to turn off the internal amplifier for speaker out. Again, check your manual to do this.....luckly, Alpine manuals are all available online.

What are you talking about?...he is planning to use his 4ch amp bridged into 2 ch-left and right-Stereo.
lurk and learn before posting wrong info.

But to answer your question if you havent yet, the diagram on the amp explains it all, (now that the picture has loaded for me).
The CH. A L- and the CH. B L+ are your pos. and Neg. for the left side and the same for the CH. B on the right side speaker. Its just combining the channels on the common side (both Lefts and both rights).
So, your left side component crossover input negative goes to the CH. A L- and the positive input goes to the CH. B L+
Same for the right side, just with the CH. A R+ and the CH. B R-
Your last ? was about the rca and speaker outputs from the deck. Pretty much the HU sends out the high level (speaker wire) and low level (RCA outputs) at all times. When running an external amp, like you are, you simply dont use the HU's speaker wires.
