Amp Question For JL Stealthbox (3 ohm)
I just purchased a JL Stealthbox for my car and was wondering what kind of amp I could use to power it. I have never installed or used a DVC sub, so the 3 ohm thing is new to me.
I currently have a spare amp, a Kicker KX 650.4 amp that I was hoping to use. I believe it is stable to 2 ohms in stereo mode and 4 ohms in bridged mono. Here are the specs:
Power Output:
Input Voltage at 14.4 Volts:
120 watts x 4 into 4 ohms (?1% THD+N)
170 watts x 4 into 2 ohms (?1% THD+N)
325 watts x 2 into 4 ohms bridged (?1% THD+N)
Input Voltage at 13.8 Volts:
70 watts x 4 into 4 ohms (0.085% THD+N)
135 watts x 4 into 2 ohms (0.5% THD+N)
250 watts x 2 into 4 ohms bridged (0.5% THD+N)
I would appreciate any insight on choosing a new amp or using my existing amp for the Stealthbox.

Well I thought I helped before.
No you cannot use an amp that is 4 ohm stable in mono on a 3 Ohm load sub. The reason I recommended the 250/1 is that it is the amp recommended by JL Audio and is perfect for the stealth box.
Other recommendations:
Rockford Punch 45
Rockford Punch 325.1
Kicker 400.1
MTX 3401
Alpine MRP-M440
Or any amp that is around 250 watts and is stable down to 2 ohms
