Amp Needed!? IDA-X100
I just installed an ida-x100 in my car with the modifry kit, sounds great.. but now I feel like upgrading the stock speakers. I'm considering the Alpine - 6-1/2" 2-Way 330W Component Car Speakers, but I'm not sure if they're gonna fit too well without modifications, and would it be necessary to get an amp if I upgrade the speakers too? Am I wasting the speakers if I don't have an amp hooked up?

I just installed the same setup, not sure which speakers you are talking about, but I got the type R components. They had to use a spacer when I had them installed, I think the window was hitting. They are plenty loud, but after a week I ordered an amp. Got a PDX-4.100 off e-bay for a GREAT price. I'm going to try to run the speakers off 2 channels and a sub off the other 2. We'll see how that works out.

The X100 will only put out 18RMS. Definetely get an amp to power those speakers. You will be able to crank it all the way up and it will sound really good. When you're top down, you can't hear anything with the stock speakers and without an amp with those Alpine's, it'll be marginally better.

In my experience, if you're running aftermarket components, you'll notice a huge improvement when adding an Amp. Running it from the headunit will still work, but keep in mind that the passive crossover will rob you of some power as well, the rest is split up between the woofer and tweeters.
If you are interested in a used Alpine PDX 4.100, your're welcome to make me an offer on the one I'm selling here:
