Amp drawing to much power?

Amp drawing to much power?
I added an amp to my stock radio, and upgraded the speakers... except now when I do certain things, like use the accessory socket, or set the side mirrors, the radio dies. Is this battery to weak? Or should I be looking elsehwere?

Go to your local autoparts store, they'll test your battery. Check your alternator too.
If that's not it, you probably have a wiring problem somewhere, bad ground maybe or something.
How big is the amp?
You may want to ask in the electronics forum.

This might be a stupid question, but you did run the power for the amp to the Battery right?? Believe me, when I was installing car audio, you wouldn't believe the shit I've seen some people do.

Like HonCBRf2 said, you have to draw power straight from the battery. Also, it's not really a battery problem. If this is a monster of an amp you installed you may need to upgrade your alternator. But thats unlikely, sounds more like a wiring problem like others have stated.

No way yer Radio power should be going out. If your amp was too much for the battery (Alternator) (And assuming as stated above you hooked it TO the battery) it would drain the battery and you would have issues w/ comming back out to yer car and not having enough juice to start it.
So as per above, sounds like somethin ain't installed correctly.
J/Tharg!

Thanks for the replies, I didn't do the install, took it to an audio place a while back.
I'll ask them what its connected to. There's also a Sony MP3 CD Shuttle in the boot that needed power.
The amp is a 2-channel Sherwood XAT-120.
I'll check if its the actual headunit that looses power, or just the amp, I've always assumed its the headunit...

I would take it back and have them recheck their wiring, sounds like you might have a short somewhere in the wiring. You can actually look at your battery to see if they ran it to it, it should have another large RED wire coming off of the positive terminal as well with the stock power wire.
