for the 9813 (that i've read) and the 7894 it is adjustable.
i've got the 7894 and here's how i switch to amber.
hold down the F (setup) key, head unit goes into setup mode, use the << and >> keys to toggle through options, look for display (green), use the 'band' button to switch to amber, press the setup button again.
on the 7894, the buttons only change to amber, the display remains blue. still, it looks dramatically better than the green or all blue. the blue display looks good enough that i don't feel it clashes, especially when surrounded by amber buttons and lighting.

the Alpine head units that support changers have a line in capabilities... but you must buy an adapter.
check crutchfield -- they have a wealth of info on these types of things.

all the ai-net receivers have line in capability, you have to buy a $15-20 adaptor that plugs into the cd-changer plug and turns it into line in.
obviously this means you can no longer have a cd changer hooked up.
if you want both, alpine sells a break-out box for around $75 to allow both a line-in and cd-changer to be hooked up.

just as an FYI -- i'm not sure that the Alpine breakout box allows for the use of the stock changer...
not saying that it isn't possible, but that you may want to check into the details before shelling out your $$.
seriously -- Crutchfield will probably know if an OEM changer can work... and they will probably sell the adapter to do it...
you might want to start a thread to see if anyone has used the OEM changer w/ an Alpine head (if the changer will work alone, it should work off the breakaway box too.) i'd try to search first, but don't remember seeing a lot of info around on it.
