Default Alpine headunit in 06'

I posted this in electronics but got no responses so I'm trying here.
I have an o6' and find the stereo acceptable. The only thing I want is XM.I can buy the Honda xm receiver kit and use a magnetic micro antenna but even doing it myself its gonna run 350.00(rip).I can get an Alpine head with XM,Ipod, radio dash control mod etc for 700.00 installed at a quality audio shop.My question: will this unit be an improvement in fidelity ( clarity at higher volumes) retaining the stock speakers?I've taken hugh loses in the past from doing high end stereo upgrades and promised myself I wouldn't do it again since I change sports cars every 1or2 years. Can I put a simple sub setup in and get better bang for my buck? Thanks John

the new headunit should show some improvement, but if you got some new (better) speakers and maybe an amp for them, you'll definetly see a difference.

i put in an alpine head unit only. it did improve the sound quality dramatically. if i could get a set of component speakers too, then we'd be talking serious sound quality. but if you're just going the head unit, you'll notice a difference

I have owned an 04' and find the stereo in the 06' quite a bit better.I read that its made by Clarion,I just don't want to spend money for a new head-unit and find I have the same issues.

I can't speak to the quality of the 06 head unit, but for $199 for the Alpine 9856 and $169 for Polk DB6500 component speakers, that is not a very big bill for MAJOR improvement. In addition, you can hook up iPod, XM, and HD radio. All of this can be taken out without any evidence, so you can move them to the next car. I did my install myself and it took about 3 hours total. The head unit took all of 20 minutes.

IMO upgrading to the Alpine head unit is well worth it. And as Rad states it can be moved to your next car--just keep the stock radio.
