Fairly certain you can use the wired DCI. Check on the specs of the alpine unit. If there is a remote port on the back of the receiver, use the wired DCI.

I have the 137 and used the wired DCI.

It's a bit buried but this page is linked from the DCI FAQ:
http://www.modifry.com/products/dci/...patibility.htm
"steering wheel remote" compatible, which is the feature that allows the Wired DCI to control the head unit
The CDE-136BT page at:
http://www.alpine-usa.com/product/view/cde-136bt
says:
Steering Wheel Remote Ready

I went for the 147BT for the rear USB port and tune-it. It also has a separate sub out and 3 digital crossovers. Works great with the wired alpine modifry. Best upgrade to my ride, along with the alpine ktp445a, 2way components, and sub with amp.

Does look like the 147bt is better. Im getting bogged down in all these different alpines, does anyone know any good sites for reviews of head units?

Whats the actual advantage of a rear USB port?

The advantage is you don't have a USB cable dangling in front of your deck and you can close the radio door.
