is the 9855 infared or wired(like 9857) for the DCI?

It's a wired DCI

You may want to check out the 9861. I had the 9857 & returned it for the 9861. The 9861 has 4 volt outputs, 24 bit DACS, and plays DVD-audio audiophile discs. It does sound much better than the 9857.
