Which Alpine amp to get?
I recently added the Alpine 9831 h/u to my S. The difference in power from stock (12w?) to the 18w in the Alpine is very noticeable. Sounds good too. But I think I want more. Unless I hear some opinions steering me away from an Alpine amplifier, I think that's what I would like to get. I also upgraded to Crystal speakers in the doors and in the S-Pods.
The two choices I'm thinking of are the MRP-F240 and MRP-F340. 40x4 (MRP-F240)sounds like a nice jump from the current 18w I have now. But will 55x4 (MRP-F340) be $200 better? Sounds like a big jump in price for not much more power. Unless this amp has something else to justify the price.
I appreciate any opinions/thoughts you may have.

10 watts per channel, even though they are "real" watts, won't make THAT much difference in the volume you can get out of your speakers. (It won't double the volume, even though it doubles the cost.)
I have the 9833 (internal amp is OFF) and a MRP-F240 right now. Polk EX components in the doors, and additional EX components in the rear panels. The MRP-F240 does just fine by itself I think, but everybody has different volume needs!
I am installing a super-secret in-cabin sub, so I will be changing my amp configuration. I don't know if I will keep using the MRP-F240 after that.
Other considerations:
A lot of the extra crossover features in the amp (that you pay for) are irrelevant if you consider the options your head unit--you already have them.
12-3/8" is longest dimension on the MRV-F340, whereas 10-1/2" is the longest dimension on the MRP-F240. This was important to me because I wanted to mount it inside the spare tire. (So keep in mind where you want to install the amp.)
