Alpine Amp + ED Sub Questions...
#11
I would get a different amp or sub. One of them needs to go. Your choice really. You need an amp that can run strong at 4ohm or 1ohm... 1ohm being the better of the two... but harder to come buy. I can get you a nice Alphasonik or Soundstream amp that can run at 1ohm.

It would be easiest for me to return the AMP, however...
Do you think the sub is simply a low-grade "weak-point" in my setup, or is it that the amp/sub just don't match?
How much would an Alphasonik or Soundstream amp cost?
Another reason I purchased the Alpine was because of it's size.
It would fit perfectly vertically mounted, in the trunk space behind the driver's seat.
I've already made the mount. I could fit a slightly larger amp, but not by much.
I like the tool well, it's where I put most of my stuff, since the well "holds" things in place and keeps them from flying around in my trunk. So, I don't want to lose the tool well for my ICE setup.
This is a budget ICE setup. The 11 Ov.2 is $175.
The 11 kv.2 only cost me $115.
I like R&B and Rap music, but I also listen to Rock, Alternative, and all kinds of music. I'm not stuck on one genre.
However, I do want to hear and feel some bass when a song I like is on.
The system doesn't need to win awards, or knock my sideview mirrors off.

WLAURENT, I am planning on using your trunk-well sub box.. the one which holds the sub vertically, on the passenger side of the trunk, and has like 0.38 cubic feet of volume.
Will this setup still sound okay in this enclosure?
Coincidentally, could you quote me a price for a sub-guard (the type that clears the trunk swing-arm)?

Thank you. That was a bit easier to understand.
Basically, I can't do this at 2am in my driveway... otherwise I'll be handcuffed and taken away before I know it
** When "tuning" the system, do I turn the BASS setting on my HU all the way up?
One other question...
You say I can't run the sub at 2ohms??? I called Elemental design, and specifically asked them for an AMP which I could match with their sub. They recommended the Alpine and Rockford mono 400w amps.
Can't I run the amp/sub combo at 2ohms?

it depends, do you plan to run the stereo with it turned all the way up (or at various levels in between)? if so, set it at the highest bass level you expect to be at when you're really cranking it...
and yes -- as you've realized, there is no way of making a dual 2 work as a 2 ohm total load. since your amp isn't 1 ohm stable, your only option is 4 ohms.
like William, i would recommend a different sub. something like an 11Ov2 dual 4 would be optimal.
still, you could trade amps, but the 11kv2 isn't the sub the Ov2 is.
and to give you an idea, i'm running an older 11Ov2 dual 4 at 2 ohms in a passenger side enclosure with about 500 Wrms to it... i'd recommend less (closer to 400 Wrms) though for a novice. it's a good pairing for sound and feel.

Thanks everyone. Wlaurent is helping me communicate with Elemental Designs. Since I'm past the 30 days mark, his influence has convinced ED to let me send the 11KV.2 sub back for a refund. I'll then purchase the 11 Ov.2 sub and be all set!
Thanks for your help William.
And thanks everyone else for your helpfull comments.
