Default Alpine advice

Ok, I did a search and did not come up with what I wanted. I think I need a new headunit. I've had my Alpine with Modifyr control working for the last few years, but last night my headunit started flashing and not working properly. All it would do is play the cd in it, nothing else, nor could I get the CD out. So I think it's time to upgrade again. Seeing I already have the Alpine dash control I'd like to stay with the brand. What should I buy? I've found three headunits and don't know which to go with.
1. 9885 2. 9887 3. x001

I've currently running Focal components, audiobahn sub, all powered by an alpine amp.
I want to add my ipod to the headunit as well. Advice is welcome. Thanks

well i have an ida-x001 and its great. Everyone else that has one will tell you the same, BUT your gonna have to sacrifice your cd player ability because the x001 is an IPOD ONLY deck. IMO i would get the x001 just because i never use cd's anymore anyways, everything is on my new 160gb ipod

I have the 9885, the 9887 is $100 more. IMO not worth the extra $. When I bought the 9885 in June the 9887 was not out yet. I have my ipod connected and works great.

Contemplating on getting the 300BT bluetooth to go along.

meguel- this may sound dumb, but when running your ipod through the 9885 do you control the music through the ipod or via the headunit? Also does this charge your ipod?

With the 9885 you control the iPod through the HU, and it charges the iPod. Very handy, but the dislay gets glossed over in sunlight, so you may want to go with the 9883. Also, depending on iPod, you get full speed or i-Link something - it effects how fast the iPod interacts with the HU, and I think 5g and newer iPods get fullspeed.

I've got a 4g nano and my current head unit which is on the fritz is an Alpine 7894. Is the 9893 a step down?

What year is your Alpine? Model? Does it have the motorized faceplate? There is a free repair, as some of those models had the face freeze in place (same thing happened to my 9851).

I bought the headunit in 03' for the car. Yes, it is motorized model 7894. It flickers on and off, nothing much with it moving, just playing music is the problem.
