Alpine 9856 and Modifry DCI wiring
I'm trying to wire up my Alpine 9856 and Modifry DCI and have a couple questions.
1. The Alpine harness has a metal thingy attached to the end of the black wire for a bolt. Should I whack that off and connect it directly to the black wire of the wiring harness?
2. The wiring harness has an orange/white wire marked "Dimmer". I've come to the conclusion that I don't need this wire. Am I correct?
3. The wiring harness has a blue wire marked "Power ant +". Does this connect to the blue alpine wire marked "P. Ant"? If so, should I just whack off the metal thingy and solder the wire to the wiring harness wire, or should I go out and get a metal thingy to attach to the wiring harness wire and then just plug the two together?
4. Finally, the alpine harness has an orange wire marked "Illum", also with a metal thingy. Is it best to keep the metal thingy or cut it off again and solder the wire to the orange wire on the harness I got from Modifry?
I would really appreciate any advice. What I have looks like a rats nest of wires and I've never really done this before. I'll be so glad to get it finished!
Thanks,
Dave

Also, I remember seeing a nice pictorial somewhere that shows how to remove the stock head unit, etc. Can someone please tell me where that is? I can't find it now... I thought it was in the FAQs at the top.
Thanks,
Dave

then, just unscrew 4 phillips head screws that hold in the radio.

Does the S need the power antenna wire (#3 above)? I just taped up the ends of the two wires because I was getting tired of messing with it. It took me a while to strip all the wires and get everything soldered and shrink wrapped, but I think it looks pretty good considering I don't have much practice with this stuff.
What's the proper way to shrink the shrink wrap?
Thanks again,
Dave

Yes. You need the power antenna wire. The S2000 antenna is 'active' - it needs 12V to operate. If you don't connect this wire, you won't have any radio reception.
To shrink wrap, I just use a lighter. Be careful not to overheat the shrinkwrap - it will melt.

I tried to find a lighter around the house, but could only find a couple boxes of wooden matches. They worked, but the burning wood left some black marks on the wires. Nothing melted so I think I'm okay.
I appreciate the help.

Hey Magnus, are you a Longhorns fan?!? I along with some of my friends are trying to find tickets to the OSU - Texas game and make a road trip out of it. I've never been to Texas.

I will now go and attach the blue wires so I can get the most powerful radio station in the country whose antenna is mere miles from my commute.
