i might offer for your perusal the CDA-7998. all the '95 had, but far better processing and display. i know - i've had them both installed in my car in the last month.

as for the 7977 and the 7878, they're discontinued units from last year (and i think a year earlier on the '77) and are not current alpine units in their '02 mix. i know - i work for tweeter.

I emailed Crutchfield today about the Alpine interface and compatible head units -- they have promised to check it out.
I will advise when/if they have a confirmation.

The 7977 was from 6 months ago just like the 7878...all manufacturers of Automobile head units change models every year so they can sell "new" units to people who feel they need to have the latest model (early adopters)...although rarely is there ever a significant enough improvement in the quality of output to warrant an upgrade...just a few more bells and whisltes...and a whole lot more money .

Also, keeps people who work for "Tweeter" employed .
