Air compressor blows my accessory fuse!
I got a 12v air compressor for filling up my tires at auto-x events. It plugs into my accessory socket. Problem is that it keeps blowing the 10amp fuse under my dash. This has happend twice At first I thought it was because radio was on, but no. It will work when I first turn it on, but when I turn if off to go to next tire it won't run again because fuse is blown!
I'd appreciate any suggestions because it really is a good compressor and I want to keep using it. Is it possible to connect it to my battery if I splice and alligator clip
I would really, really appreciate any input. Thanks

At the risk of stating the obvious, I'll suggest that the compressor is pulling more than 10A for its operation. Replace fuse with 15A or connect direct to the battery. Job done.

Yeah, does sound obvious but I was confused because compressor designed to plug into car 12v accessory socket. But guess you're right and I'll try hooking directly to battery. Owner's manual says not to replace fuses with higher amp rating fuses

replacing fuses with incorrect sizes can damage wiring. (to state the obvious 5 more amps probully wont melt the wires, but i wouldn't take the risk)
So either connect it to the battery or you could redue your cig lighter wiring, run new thicker wire and a 30amp relay and a 25amp fuse and your good to go.

Thanks, but I really don't want to rewire the thing. I'll buy some alligator clips and hook it up to my battery. Never done this before but should work okay.
