Adding sub to OEM HU w/ Lucid rears

In doing some further research on this issue, I stumbled onto a page at the JL Audio website that diagrams a subwoofer add-on to a stock system with rear channel speakers:

Apparently, you can simply tap into the rear speaker leads with line converters in parallel and feed the signal directly into the subwoofer amp. I'm going to try this option in the hope of avoiding a mandatory HU upgrade (at least for now). Stay tuned.

i mentioned this before, but this should work as long as the input impedence of the line level converter is high.
anyone else have any comments on this? it looks like Russ is planning to do this w/ the JL 250/1. i can't see any reason not to, but i also haven't found a hard spec on the JL's input impedence...
