Post Adapters to "Hardwire" Your iPod

Let's face it, the iPod FM transmitters suck! That plus the fact Honda decided to put the ONLY 12-V auxiliary outlet directly behind the drivers right elbow makes putting one there and trying to use it a huge PITA! It seems as most of us have figured out, the best way to hook up our iPods is to hardwire them directly to either our OEM HU or new aftermarket replacement.

After doing a little net surfing myself, I found two adapter units that are actually "hard wired" directly to the Honda OEM stereo and then connected to the iPod. Hard wiring is accomplished by simply plugging their unit into the CD changer port in the back of the HU and this also provides power to charge the iPod battery

Here are the two units I've found so far: Mp3YourCar and iPod2car.

One very cool thing about the Mp3YourCar is the fact they have a video demonstrating how to install it in the S2000 on their website. This model claims to allow the remote controls to operate the iPod, however, since you have to use the CD changer port to hook it up, if you happen to have a CD changer, you won't be able to use it. The Mp3YourCar adapter is about $189.00.

Note: When you get to their home page, click on the "MP2YourCar TV" link to watch the video on how to install one in the S2000.

There's another adapter unit I found called the iPod2car. Several stores carry it, including Fry's Electronics, Best Buy and Crutchfield. Like the Mp3YourCar version, it's also "hard wired" in the same way via the CD changer port so if you have a CD changer in your trunk, installing either of these units render the changer useless. One nice thing with the iPod2Car is it includes a pana-vise-type holder for the iPod. This one is slightly cheaper at $149.00 however both units seem to be designed for '00-'03 S2000 models.

Again, this is just a little online research and I have no experience with either the installation or use of either of these two adapters. If anyone buys and installs either of these versions, please post your review for the rest of us - thanks!
