Default 8" Sub box w/o removing tools?

Let me clarify, I only want/need to run an 8" sub for some low end punch, not concrete splitting bass. Would a box built to fit into the truck well on top of the tool tray that is flush with the rest of the trunk have enough volume (space wise) to adequately drive an 8" sub with maybe 150watts?

yes

an 8 inch in a sealed box probably only needs .3 cu/ft or so......if you come up short...polyfill.

Take some measurements and look at some specs for a 8 inch......

Thanks. I was beginning to think only threads concerning cramming 4, 15" JLs into an s2000 got any attention.

I actually have my 8" sub behind the passenger seat in a custom box to save trunk space. It is a shallow sub and does not take up too much room. It also keeps the sound in the cabin of the car better. Which is important becuase with a 8" you do not get the low frequncies as well as with a 10" or a 12" sub. So for trying to squeez as much sound as possible out of the 8" I elected to keep the sub in the cabin for maximum efficiency and volume, and also the trunk space. Also try and get a sub that can handle a decent amount of power, that will help too. As long as you have the amplifier to power it.

How far back do you have the seat? I have mine all the way back and can't imagine there would be enough room.

I would say the passenger seat is at least three-quaters of the way back. It is ALMOST touching the box. A few of my friends who are roughly 6' can sit in the seat, altough I'm sure they wouldn't want to do it for a long time. For shorter people it would not be a problem at all. The cool thing abouth the sub I have is that the magnet is in the front and not the back like most typical subwoofers. That is why it is so shallow.

It is a Critical Mass MB82 8" mid -bass subwoofer. It is a real shalow design. The magnet is in the front.
