with the shifter in 3rd how close is your hand while its on the shifter?

About 5". It is not close at all. The screen is also very visible in this location/angle. When the shifter is in 2-4-5 and 6 the screen is totaly unobstucted and only mildly obstructed when in 1 and 3.

Get a short shift kit and countersunk knob and it wont be in the way at all.

Ehh i know im gonna get flamed for this but...

I think its an awesome design but didnt you lose the entire middle heat vent? I like that vent on cold nights going topless around town. Keeps my right hand toasty at least

Nah, no flaming. I did lose the middle vent. In my case, I never used it. I think I tried it out once on my previous S and never used it after that. If someone needed the vent, I think they could either try to find a smaller screen or angle the screen steeper to lower it. I don't know how viewable the screen would be at that angle though.
