every thing points to the amp.
1. started cutting in and out a few month ago, that is because your amp was entering a self preservation mode, which means reducing output power to minimize the chance of self destruction
2. a few months later, cutting in and out means going into protection mode
3. stays on without sub because there is no load, which translates to no current, which translates to no heat
4. static means the output transistors/mosfets were either getting really hot or are on their way out
I rec not to waste time and just get the amp replaced.
and.... multimeter can't tell if a signal is clipping, you need an occiloscope...
take it to any competent shop and they'll tell you the same thing
* I might not log on for another few months, been pretty busy. you can check my previous posts in this section to see if I quality to answer Just don't want you to waste your time

Thanks. Yeah that's what I was thinking. Don't see how it could be anything else besides the amp just on it's way out.

Any reason this won't work? I currently have been using a Soundstream which seems to have similar stats as this newer soundstream model.
Really cheap and all but if it does what I need then I don't need anything more expensive.
This is the one I am looking at now.

This is the one I used to have.

Or if I decided to run 2 amps. One just for the sub and then a 2 channel for the 2 door speakers I guess I would need to run another wire off the battery to the 2nd amp? Or could I split off the one power wire in my trunk now? Would that be too much running off the one battery or should I be fine doing that?
Could I just get 2 of those amps I posted about above and just bridge 1 of them all 4 channels to the sub and then the other 2 bridged 2 channels to each speaker? Or would that be dumb lol? As I'm sure you can tell I don't know much about car sound systems.

Anyone know about that amp? If it should be basically the same as my current one I will probably order it as it should be fine for what I need. Just want to make sure that there is nothing listed that wouldn't work for me.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Went to a local car audio place today and they tested everything out for me.
Turns out it is the sub and not the amp. Sub had something loose inside and one of the wires on the side of it was basically disconnected. Amp was tested to a sub they had laying around and measured voltage etc and was good all around.
So I got a new sub from them and works great. The static or noise I heard coming from speakers was from the driver side speaker coming loose in the door panel and not bolted down so rattling like crazy. Also the ground to the tweeter was cut so I just got a butt connector and re attached that and screwed down the speaker and the system sounds great again!
