2004-05 Headrest Speakers/S-Pods
Just curious as to the configuration of how the 2004-05 headrest speakers work. Do they run off the rear speaker channels in the head unit, or are there auxiliary channels apart from the front and rear speaker channels? Is there a secondary connector for these speakers on the back of the head unit? Or, is the back of the headunit on the 2004-05 simply the large connector?
If the latter is the case, and I wanted add S-pods, where do they tap into?
Thanks!

There is an auxiallary plug under the driver's side dash that is wired to the rear channels of the factory head unit to run the optional headrest speakers. For the factory head unit to power s-pods you would have to use a very efficient speaker type. good luck, not personally a fan of s-pods or oem headrest speakers; add more power to better door speakers and a sub

Does that mean that the factory door tweeters are powered by the same front channel that powers the main door speakers? I had just assumed they were powered by the rear channels on the head unit.

It would be wise to get the opinions of people who actually have S-Pods. I doubt the 2 or 3 people who say they don't like them have ever listened to them themselves. Weather or not you decide to get them, everyone on the board agrees new front speakers make a huge improvement. Many have S-Pods powered by the stock HU and are happy.

So here's another question then.
Are the old 2000-2001 20W per channel factory head units enough to power the 2004-2005 stock front speakers, front tweeters, and S-Pods or factory headrest speakers?
I'm not an audiophile, so I'm not looking for the best sound quality, just that it will be adequete.

Whatever you do...lose the stock front speakers first. The factory headrest speakers retail for about $500 + $250 installation. You can get much more for that kind of money in the aftermarket.

I'm not an audiophile either, but you lose almost all of your sound at highway speed with the top down.
I live where it is sunny and warm most of the year and my top isn't up that often.
Don't make the costly mistake that I made. I originally purchased inadequate front speakers with a small amp. I was still unhappy after making several highway drives.
I replaced all of that and now I can hear my music top down or top up. Do it right the first time for just a little bit more money. The labor to do it over ate me up.
