Default 2+1 or 2+2

Which will sound better?

upgraded components in the front + 1 wlaurent sub in the trunk

or

upgraded components in the front + 2 Lucid rear speakers

I know this is a general question, so I'll try to fill in as much deatil as possible about the components.

Headunit - stock
Speakers - JL XR650 CSI (will they fit) or something with a similar sound at a lower price
Amp - Autotek SX-4160 100w x 2 + 320w mono bridged or 100w x 4 @ 4ohm

I listen mostly to R & B, but do want to feel a little bit of bass when I listen to the occasional rap & trance.

The MY03 factory speakers doesn't sound that bad to me (a few more notches of bass would be good) when the car is not moving.

I'm waiting for more details on the '04 headrest speakers but I am planning on doing fronts, rears and a sub. I am going to run a 4 channel up front and a mono sub amp for the sub. I would really suggest upgrading your headunit. I recently did and the difference is incredible even with the stock speakers, although you will want/need to replace them.

IMHO 2+1

rear speakers will never give you the bass of a good subwoofer. And with a good subwoofer you can HIGH PASS the front speakers so they don't work so hard playing bass. this allows them to play music louder and clearer. 100w per side to front speakers will be plenty loud.

those JL speakers will fit with spacers (homemade or bought from Lucid)

2+1 hands down, no components are going to be able to compete with a decent sub setup.

A lot of guys on here have had a lot of success with single 8" subs in the trunk. I've also heard some great systems running single 8"s back there.[QUOTE]
