Default RE-71 for stock CR wheels

I want to order the RE-71's, but I'm a bit worried about going with factory sizes because the tire width seems to be much narrower on these tires. Anybody running these? What sizes are best on stock CR wheels? I'm worried they may look a bit stretched if I use 215/255. Pics would be great. Thanks!

I did read the numerous pages of the re71 tire tread, but couldn't find anything specific to the stock CR wheels.

I can't say anything about a 215/245 setup but several of my friends with CRs, including myself, have been running 245/255 Hankook R-S3, Bridgestone RE71R, or Bridgestone RE-11A.

not sure on AP2 or CR, on AP1, although stock size was 205/225, correct size was 225/245 on stock wheel for tires other than OEM S-02. I've been running 225/255 on 17" wheels.

You will be good with the OEM sizes, the fronts fit up to a 8" wheel, the rears up to a 10" wheel. Check TIreRacks website, once you've chosen your particular tire check out the spec's for the tire. You will see the tread width, appropriate wheel width's, etc. The original tires spec'd for the CR are even still available, the RE070.

Steven,
What's your choice of tire and size when you have to replace the CR tires?

Darren,
For a street only driven CR I prefer the OEM sizes of 215/255 on the OEM wheels. I haven't driven on the RE71's so I cannot comment on them. The Dunlop Z2's are very good tires and are usually priced well this time of year. I also like the Bridgestone RE070 original equipment on the CR, they are being phased out according to Bridgestone. They are definitely "old school" tire technology wise, but I like their looks and very stiff sidewall. Plus they wear extremely well. Price wise the Z2 is probably your best option.

if you plan on autocrossing competitively go with the re71r. as for size the usual 255 in the rear and your choice up front. if its just a street car 215 or 225 should be great.

Hey Darren. I just bought a 225/255 set of RE71R for ap2v1 wheels. Can't wait to go out and beat on them. They fit the wheels perfectly.

I like those Sumitomo HTR Z III for pure street driving. They're pretty responsive, relatively grippy, and cheap.

Thanks guys. It looks like the z2's are the same price as the RE-71's. I've read great things about the RE-71's, so I'm going to try them out. I was mainly worried about the look with the RE-71 being narrower, but after further research, it looks like stock sizes should be fine.

Hai, thanks for the info regarding the Sumitomos...they are much less expensive than others in the category, so that's good to know. I hope your enjoying your new CR!

I'll post up some pics when I get the tires mounted in case anybody else has the same concerns.
