highly unlikely. the issue is probably old brake fluid or not enough brake fluid

folks, thanks for your input. I swopped in a set of spare discs and the pedal feel is far better. My front discs were apparently about 5mm thinner than what was required as a minimum thickness. I didn't realize my current pad (seidoya n1-500) was a rotor chomper.
