Strange knocking sound on Tein Flex Coilover RR
Can anyone help me figure out a knocking sound coming only from the right-rear coilover. I first heard it last summer faintly but it wasn;t much of a concern. This spring i've driven the s2000 about 10 times and 6 out of 10 rides i heard the sound. It happens only on left hand turns where the centrifical force shifts to the rear rear side, or on pavement that has small to medium bumps, when i hit them - i hear the knockiing sound. Sounds like metal knocking slightly against another metal.
Any ideas from the community would be greatly appreciated.
I included a link to the video that shows the instalation of the Tein Flex's on the car. You can see shots of the Right Rear installtion a few times.
Thanks

I would make sure that the endlink on the rear sway bar is tightened down all the way. If its a hair loose, it'll make a knocking sound. Also you may want to check the top mount on top of the coilover. If it has pillowball mounts and has play, it'll knock...meaning its worn. Even if its a bushing in the mount, if its worn it'll knock. Regardless you'll have to remove the sway bar endlink to take out the coilover to check it anyways.
I would start off there and make sure your endlinks are tight and don't have any play. you'll need an allen to keep the endlink from spinning and 14mm wrench to tighten it.
I hope this helps

When i had the coilovers installed, i don't think the guy loosened or removed the rear sway bar....could it have loosened on its own just from being driven? I'll mention evrything u just said when i'm gonna go have it looked at.

Either Tein has had a bad batch of pillow balls or their pillow just aren't that great. There's been a few people that have had failed pillow ball bushings.
Before you send in the pillow ball for repair make sure the shock shaft nut is tight because that has also happened to a few people and it also makes a similar knocking noise.
I think Teins are warrantied for a year and I'm not sure if they do any type of advanced exchange or if they leave you hanging. Just call them and they should be familiar with the problem.
Good luck.
