1. if they're grooved too much
2. if they're too thin (you can see specs in te tech manual)
warped or/and cracked - obviously.
i saw once also some discussion about overheating that leaves spots on the rotor - but i'm not familiar with this.

Centric Premiums (design and metallurgy) are equal to or better than OEM. The actual OEM units are measured using a CMM during the Centric design phase. If you are attending Homecoming II, Stop-Tech will have a display along with Powerslot rotors. My friend is an exec there and I believe I have convinced him that his guys should also bring Centric Premium rotors (same ownership for all 3 brands). They can answer all of your questions. Some of the execs are race car drivers..they know friction.
