Default JDM Brake Pad Advice?

Yes, I like JDM parts I think I may need new brake pads soon (starting to squeal -- may be rotors) -- I'm looking for street pads that can hold up for Auto-X. I don't need or want full track pads, but I know the stock won't hold up. I guess I'm looking at Project Mu (I'm using their brake fluid right now and love it), Endless, and whatever else is out there that I don't know about. I've looked at a few pads from both brands, but in their street lineup I have no idea what the differences are between them.

Oh yeah, *JayDeeEmm* brake pads!!!



There are other threads regarding brake pads, but I'll give you my recommendation: Hawk HP+ (*not* HPS!). Coefficient is MUCH higher than stock, and they work great even stone New England Winter cold. Expect more dust and some noise. Noise goes away after serious track usage (at least in my case).

There are other options as well that aren't Japanese Domestic Market parts.

BTW, stock AP1 pads will easily hold up to autoX usage.

Hawk HP+ pads are ok, but they're too dusty/noisy for a daily driver (which my S is), so if I got them I'd rather go with a full race pad instead of just splitting the baby.

I know there are other options that aren't JDM parts, that's why I specifically asked about JDM parts. If that's not your bag, just leave it alone if you can't offer constructive advice.

So you're saying you've tried HP+ pads?
If HP+ are too dusty and noisy, guess what even more track-dedicated pads are going to be for you as far as dust and noise go. And performance while cold is an issue with most of them. If you're not tracking the car, no reason to get "full race" pads. But I will say that Carbotech XP8's are a pretty reasonable street/track compromise. But noise/dust are an issue with them as well, and coefficient of friction is noticeably less than the HP+ pads.

Here's some constructive advice: JDMness isn't necessarily inherently equivalent to wonderfulness. What do you have against trying to find out and run what is BEST for your wants/needs/usage whether it's "JDM" or not?
I have tried HP+ pads, as well as HPS pads. I sent the HPS pads back the day I installed them, they were horrible, so the vendor sent me some HP+ pads as replacements. They're good pads, but they give off too much noise and dust for me for a street pad, I was tired of people telling me I needed new brakes. So I guess what I was trying to say is that if I'm going to have to deal with dust and noise anyway, I'd rather just go with a full race pad for the track and keep the OEMs for the street.

The JDM factor here is this: I eventually want to start showing my car again, and I have a few rare JDM parts on the car right now (which score major points if my car is in the JDM category at shows), so I'd like to stick with JDM parts to maximize my show points. I also love JDM parts generally, but I realize that they may not always be the BEST choice performance-wise (especially with track parts due to wait times). I am also not the BEST driver out there, so I will probably not push an Endless or Project Mu pad to its limit at an auto-x any more than I would a Hawk or Carbotech.

Additionally, I have heard that the Project Mu street/track pads give off very little dust and noise, which is a plus since these are primarily street pads. So there is some method to my madness

Isn't OEM JDM enough? Brake pads are consumable items just like tires or oil and should be treated as such. Use that extra hundred buck that you'd save by NOT buying some ridiculously expensive JDM brake pads (that are not any better than OEM for your application), and put it towards, buying another rare JDM part that will wow people (like maybe a J's BBK which equals mad point yo!).

If you had a J's BBK do you really think anyone would care what JDM pad your running then? No! I can tell you from experience, they only care about the calipers and rotors. Why would it be any different when using the OEM calipers?

i just put in some oem pads this morning off a rsx. i didnt now they were the same pads. roommate had the sitting around.

Yup, I think there is a few others that share the same size pad and backing plate. Although I'm not sure if the compound is the same....I'm sure it is though. S2K pads are actually quite impressive, all things considered (or it could just be the weight of our cars and the well designed braking system...I think we got one of the best ABS system out there).
