Hawk HPS pads not "drop in"?

Double check with the application guide. Pad part numbers are very very similar, and some are only a digit or letter off to differentiate between cars/pads.
I picked up HP+ and they dropped right in.

The correct part number for Hawk HPS will drop in without issue, I've run them on my S2000, I suspect they gave you the wrong pad part number as they should not be thicker at all. I've never had any complaints with the HPS compound for street driving, though I would never run them on a track.

Hmmmm... unless they sent you the wrong pads, I can't figure out why they wouldn't fit. Did you remember to depress the brake piston all the way? New pads are usually much thicker than the one's you are replacing and won't fit without doing that.
Hawk HPS are superb street pads. Better than the Carbotech 1521's and equal to the Ferrado DS 2500's. I've had all three. None of these are intended for track use though.

I did a track day on them the weekend after I installed them and they were a HUGE improvement over the stock pads that I ran at the same track the month before. Not once during the day was I not completely confident in my brakes. They do dust like crazy though. Wheels looked worse after 20 minutes of driving than they did after an entire day of track on the stock pads. Oddly enough though mine don't make an ounce of noise which I've read can be prevented if you bed them in properly. My solution to the terrible dusting was coating the wheels with Opti-coat. It's basically an additional layer of clearcoat and nothing sticks to it. I stopped by a wash booth on my way home from the track and 95% of the brake dust came right off without any effort scrubbing them. The rest I can wipe my finger across and it comes right off so a quick wash and they wheels will be back to good as new.

Got them in fine... I'm just a de da dee. Didn't realize the rears screwed in. Also put on braided lines at the same time so the front pistons pushed right in.
As far as first impressions these pads (with the lines) are worlds above the stockers. Before I got use to them I was stopping 2-3 car lengths sooner than I meant to. I couldn't be happier. I don't track the car but I'll have to hit up the back roads when the weather gets better to see how they do once they get some heat in them.
