Default Brake piston/cylinder grease?

I have read that some folks will simply coat the inside of the cylinder and the squared-off O-ring with clean brake fluid. But is there a GREASE alternative? If so, is that a better way to go than the brake fluid?

I'm familiar with greasing the caliper pins, but not sure what to use for the cylinder itself (and the embedded o-ring) as I've never had one off before (which I do now).

thanks for any help.

Its unclear if you're referring to the 'cylinder' and oring in which the slide pin slides, or about the brake piston and cylinder that would only be a concern when doing a caliper rebuild.

Regarding caliper pin, and the oring which it slides on, use a silicone brake grease.

As for a caliper rebuild, you don't want to contaminate the brake fluid. Lube piston and oring with only brake fluid.

If you rebuild a caliper or annything else, use ATE brake cylinder paste or Seiken red rubber grease. Gives better results compared to brake fluid.

Thanks for the replies, guys.

Yes, I was talking about rebuilding the caliper. I just didn't realize that was the term for it.
Basically I've got it right off to paint it really well, and figured I'd check out the piston and cylinder while I'm at it and re-lube it.
