Advice on Bilstein PSS9 Suspension System on 2000 - AP1
#11
I had the PSS9's for a few years on my Ap1, they are fantastic, a great choice, providing better handling and a better ride. Mine were the non-adjustable version , I speculated that the shock engineers knew much more about suspension tuning than me, so I left it up to them to dial in the suspension perfectly rather than me screwing it up with shock adjustments. I can't answer too many of your questions any better than what has been noted, I never wanted a slammed ride so they were perfect on the upper settings or just slightly lower. You will love the setup after it is all set.
One thing that always messed with my head was the height being set with the car empty and a full tank of fuel or perhaps 3/4 full - however your predominantly drive with fuel levels. Then you sit in the car and the rear driver height goes down while the front passenger side goes up, then a passenger sits in the seat next to you and the rear passenger side goes down and the front driver side goes up. It can drive you crazy if you think about it too much and one seeks perfection, as always perfection can be the enemy of good enough, lol.

It is my understanding that they are balancing the tires but not corner balancing it. For just regular commute driving, is it necessary? Also, they are having trouble fitting on the old top hats, so they are replacing the top hats along with the lower ball joints. Both of these new parts are aftermarket and not OEM.

One needs to drill out the top hat bushings. Its in the instructions. Duno what problem they think they're having or why an aftermarket part may solve it. The aftermarket part is likely to cause issues. I wouldn't allow that even though its not critical.
No idea what the issue is with your ball joints. My advice? Absolutely do not allow them to use aftermarket.

Thanks B serious. I will talk to the mechanic after lunch to see if drilling out the top hat bushings is possible. Also, I will ask if he can use OEM for the Lower Ball Joints. The report says there is "play" in the left lower ball joint and right lower ball joint. They are recommending using Moog(?) lower ball joints.
On HondaCarParts they have these OEM items:
Top Hat for SHOWA strut

Lower Ball Joints Left and Right
https://www.hondapartsguys.com/oem-p...bC1sNC1nYXM%3D
Would you go with these OEMS? Also, are the lower ball joints the same for rear and front?

As mentioned above, Moog isn't a suitable replacement.
The Honda dealer sourced parts in the links that you and thoiboi posted are the ones you want.
OEM may not be the best verbiage to use. It has a wide meaning. "Genuine Honda, from a Honda dealer" is more clear. Or better yet, provide the Honda part number.
