"A-Sport" bumper fitment?

"A-Sport" bumper fitment?
I purchased one of the "A-Sport" style bumpers and while the overall fitment is good, it seems as though there's no way to make it work with the AP1 bumper reinforcement bar.
Has anyone put one of these bumpers on, or know if purchasing an AP2 bar will make a difference? The shop said that they'd have to fabricate a new bumper reinforcement, or that I'd have to just leave it off... which I don't really want to do, in the event I get into another accident (insurance will give me hell about it). Would an AP2 reinforcement fit better? It seems that the grille opening is about an inch taller than stock, and it's narrower.
If not I'm probably just going to pay the membership and put it up for sale here. The seller said it was made of a flexible material and it's actually FRP; I live in San Francisco and am worried it'll get cracked when it gets backed into at some point anyway.
