Recondisioning the Black molding around soft top/windows
So my S has about 150k on the body, and it shows. I've buffed out the paint, and it looks better. in the process, and over time the black trim around the bottom of the windsheild (as well as around the bottom of the soft top) Has faded and gotten the color distorted. Has anyone found an easy way to make this look like new (or just not horrible) again? Can i paint this? sand off the top layer? Help!

Are you talking about this black trim I also need to take scratches out of it.
I wonder if it's also a black vinyl that can be removed like the front windshield pillars..

There are silicon lubricating products that come in tubes. Go to a auto parts store and they should be able to help you.

I just wanted to share:
I bought surf city garages black max when oreiley was closing out on the products. Great stuff! I use it every chance i get to get the outside plastics black. It lasts a decent amount of time, protects and has a good finish. It's gel like that seems to "nourish" the plastic. It's well worth the $5.
I wasn't too impressed using 303 or other dash products in this application.
From surf city:
SURF CITY GARAGE - BLACK MAX VINYL RUBBER & TRIM DRESSING 8oz BOTTLE
Got cloudy gray trim, but want the black back? Black Max here to save the day. Vinyl, rubber and plastic will look showroom new in minutes, no matter what color they are. Finally, a dressing that's a cream so it stays on the car, not dripping to the ground. Black Max contains powerful UV blockers to stop or prevent bleaching and cracking from the sun. The finish isn't greasy or glossy, so you get a perfect factory-new look. You don't have to apply this stuff often because it lasts through dozens of washes and even rain. Keep Black Max in your detailing kit for a showroom look that lasts.
