Rear bumper / license plate

Rear bumper / license plate
I just bought my 2006 S2000, Laguna (aka Bermuda) Blue.
I spent an hour working with the former owner to remove the rear license plate. The screws had not been touched since 2006, they were rusted and very difficult to back out. (I learned many years to ago to always use stainless screws, or else the nylon license-plate screws, on license plates.) We finally got one screwed all the way out, the other one we wound up cutting a slot into the license plate to free it, then I used a bolt cutter on that screw.
At any rate, while we were working on the screws, unbeknownst to us, since we could not see what was going on behind the license plate, the metal brackets were actually rotating and cutting a circular path through the plastic/fiberglass of the bumper. See the attached picture.
I don't know that this is a real problem. I have my new plate attached (with non-rusting nylon screws on the back plate, stainless screws on the front plate), and it hides the damage, and I'm sure the license plate is not going to fall off.
If I did want to try to patch up the cuts in the plastic/fiberglass, what should I use? Does anybody know what type of material this is, and what type of adhesive or filler might be appropriate for this? Or any other suggestions?
Thanks,
Ken
