bead blasting is a great way to do it despite the cost. I got my OEM wheels bead blasted and I didn't have to deal with any chemicals or dust issues. I didn't even wash them, just drop them off dirty and they come out spotless.

I got mine bead blasted and powder coated for $500, I thought that was expensive but the end product is phenomenal. No touch up paint with powder coating though, so I better take good care of them.
