I got a quote for a mugen cf hardtop from a local shop for only 1500... This seems to be way to cheap to me. If it were not real carbon fiber how would I know ?
I'm stuck, I want it but I dint want something that is fake. Help anyone ? Thanks

go check it out , should be able to eyeball a MUGEN tag with number on it. Them you know its authentic.
like this you can see the MUGEN TAG near the rear window.

It's not going to be authentic at that price. To make 100% sure there will be a metal tag on the inside of the top above the rear window with the Mugen logo and a number. If that is there its authentic. I'm selling my VIS mugen top painted Berlina for $1600 picked up, but that is a good price even if it's like a VIS carbon top, it's an average price. The main thing to look at honestly is the hardware it comes with. If it has OEM hardware that would be best and authentic tops come with OEM hardware, if it has solid 1 peice rear brackets it's most likely a VIS top, and if it has a metal 2 peice design rear brackets it's most likely a Chaser top.

Also if it's a VIS top it's well worth it for that price, mine fits perfectly and looks great with no real gaps at all. I would stay away from a Chaser top.

He didn't ask if it was real Mugen, just real carbon fiber. To answer your question OP, just look at the damn thing - and stay away from any knock off tops except Seibon and VIS.

I'm pretty sure his main concern is that he didn't want to get stuck with a fake top, and it was fishy that they say it's a carbon Mugen top for only $1500, and didn't say it's a knock off or replica. They don't make "fake" carbon fiber tops..any carbon top is real including all of the knock off's. He was just thinking that maybe you can tell from the carbon if it's fake or not. There probably is a certain weave and layout the authentic tops are, but I can't say what it is since I don't know how it's different from a knock off top. They are all real carbon though, so if you havent seen both in person there is no real way to tell if it's authentic other than the riveted Mugen plate on the inside.
