HONDA CARE and replacing soft tops under warranty
I purchased a used but mint 06 ap2 with an extended warranty from Honda Care a little over a year ago. Recently I have started to get the regular tears seen in the corners of the soft top and am in the process of trying to get either Honda or my insurance to help cover this.
So far Honda has sent me on a wild goose chase where I was eventually able to get in touch with the regional manager who says that my car is too old and therefor not covered under Honda Factory warranty although my Honda Care extended warranty still covers the vehicle. This issue seems too common for owners and I was wondering if anyone has had success with getting Honda Care extended warranties to cover this issue. A link to the TSB for the soft top is below.

Any comments would be helpful either successful or not.

I haggled with Honda dealership here for two days about the soft top straps wearing and the bar beginning to punch a hole into the top. They finally offered to pay half the costs, but would not cover it fully. I finally opted just to order some modifry straps and be glad the bar didn't actually punch through.
I would call corporate and have them deal with the dealership, but be prepared to hear that the top is a "wear and tear" item.
Best of luck to you.

When I first purchased my 06 with 21,600 miles on it in August 2010 and then found out it had the hole from the hinge on the passenger side. I contacted the local dealership about the issue and the TSB. They of course told me that they would n't cover the replacement of the top. They told me about the regional service manager and asking him about the top. I was lucky that the manager told me if I would pay the first 500 bucks they would cover the rest of the cost. I think that the years on the car, Honda will not replace the top. Trying this see if the regional service manager will go in halves on the costs. If you have been a loyal Honda customer that might help with your problem. Wish you the best of luck on this man. Later BD

For them to cover half would be great. Did you guys talk with the regional managers in person? They would not give me his contact information so I'm having to relay through the dealership which is taking a while as well.
Also just curious, but half the cost is 500-600$? I think the replacement comes out to roughly 1200$?

My attorney sent a demand letter to the dealership that sold me the CPO S, who originally claimed the patch would hold (it fell off just a few days after purchasing her). New top including labor courtesy of the dealership. Honda Care will not cover it since it's being classified as an accessory.

You have to ask for goodwill assistance from your local Honda dealer service manager who then ask's for approval through their regional/district manager. Sounds like you may have already done this step, but thats about all you can do. They are more apt to help you out if you have been a loyal customer as someone already stated above. Good luck!!
