Default Considering Painting OEM Hardtop Any Advice ?

I picked up a black OEM hardtop and I've been using it on my sebring silver 02 s2k for a few months. I like the look of the black hardtop, but the black shows so many little scratches, fingerprints, water drops etc.... . I've been thinking about having it colour matched to my car - sebring silver. I'd like to limit the amount of black trim on the hardtop and I like the look of the black mouldings also being colour matched (seen a few on this site). Is there anything I should be concerned with when I take it to get painted?, I'll have it professionally painted. Is there anything that has to be done with the top being aluminum ?. I imagine it has to be totally primed, painted, and cleared. If there is anything special I need to know, I'd love to hear about it. thanks for any replies on this.

If your hardtop is in good condition(no dents/deep scratches) then a body shop would just have to prep it for paint. They don't need to prime it unless there is work that needs to be repaired.

Too bad your aren't any closer, I would have traded you my mint sebring silver oem hardtop for your black one.

thanks for the reply. Where are you located ?, I could travel for a swap if you're in Ontario. If not thanks for the reply on this.

I've seen at least one member on this forum that had all of the black mouldings painted to match top colour, I don't remember their name off hand but it was a silver s2k hardtop and it looked sweet all one colour. I'll have to talk to my paint guy to see if they recommend painting the mouldings, if the paint will stick to it alright. Otherwise I'll just leave it with black and silver.
