I originally posted this in "Under the Hood," but thought my fellow Mile-Highers might have some insight as well. Here it is:

Anyone have this kind of problem? It seems lately (the past week or so) when I first start the car in the morning, it starts out idling very low for a few seconds (kinda like its gonna die) and then it seems the ECU or whatever kicks in and the idle goes up to normal. This seems rather strange to me on a MY2000 S2000 with only 16,000 miles on it. I've never experienced this kind of symptom on a "new" car. Yeah, sure my '91 Prelude does that too on occasion. But then that car a hell of a lot older, too. I don't know. Is anyone else out there experiencing anything like this at all? Again, being a new car I wouldn't expect this type of behavior from it, but then maybe all is ok and I'm just worrying about nothing. Any ideas, guys? TIA.

I have had that happen a few times. How low is your gas? If it's below a 1/4 tank it could be sucking up the nasty deposits. Or it may just be bad gas. When this happens to me, I just wait until fill up and everything is fine. Hope this helps.

A week or so back I was experiencing stalls after starting in the morning then I read in another thread that running the air conditioner (and then not running it) can cause the ECU to reset. After a day or two of not using the A/C the car stopped stalling upon initial start so I assume it adjusted itself.

Mine used to do that too. Too much throttle and the car would die. I had to gently coax her awake some mornings. Man, I miss my car. It had such personality. Sniff.

Mine did that as well a couple times this summer, and it sure wasn't because of it being cold! I've kept an eye out for it since but it's not reoccured after the first couple.

Jeff and I have both expereinced that on our cars and we have concluded that shutting the car off with highhood temps will cause the fuel to "boil" out of the fuel rail. It also happens when the car has sat for a few days without being started. This can cause air to be trapped in the fuel rail and cause hard starts.
Some cars do it more than others possibly due to tolerances in fuel pressure regulator design. Jeff's car does it more than mine. We have found that if you cycle the key twice and let the fuel pump prime completly both times it wont do it. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the tip. I will have to try that next time. I had it happen to me more than 5 times within a few weeks. It was on the same tank of gas, thats why i thought it might have to do with bad petro.
