Mini Ride?
#1
Toying with several route ideas for this Sunday. Deer Creek Canyon in Denver up to Tiny Town/Turkey Creek or Left Hand Canyon in Boulder up to Peaceful Valley and return through James Canyon or just messing around in the Pawnee Grasslands/Buttes up near Greeley. The first two promise some tight twisties and the last just came recommended as beautiful area for pics and maybe some good straightaways. Anyone interested in any of those routes for just a quickie ride (although the Pawnee excursion would probably be more than *quickie* since it will take a while to get up there)? I'll probably just do Deer Creek if there's no interest since that's close and maybe I can scope out a route for a future drive. But if more than two other cars want one of the other routes, I'm game.

Departure time is open. Sunday would be the day probably since traffic lessens but this drive is very loosely planned and I really don't know where I'm going or what I'll find but a small crew would make it all the more enjoyable. These routes were recommended to me by someone who knows the state very well and I asked for some nearby recommendations. I know Deer Creek is pretty slow going due to the curves but have been told Left Hand is a little more sweeping and open. The estimates for the first two were like 2-3 hours or so round trip back to Denver. The Pawnee one would be longer, obviously, and not twisty at all, but I'd like to kick some butte. The Pawnee Buttes come highly recommended from a touring perspective. Could be another winning Calendar shot entry for you, Simon. Your lake landing one is now my desktop.

Morning, afternoon, early evening... I'm easy. Whatever the group wants (assuming there is a group). Is Second Creek open and available on Sunday? That would be another possibility.

Just putting it on the table. I'm told now the buttes may be too hot so that's getting ruled out. I think the Boulder route looks the most promising after huddling with my local Indian scout.

Lefthand is great, but the upper part of James canyon is unpaved. I'd suggest returning via coal creek canyon, boulder canyon (construction!) or through the road to lyons if you head out on Lefthand.
I've taken bike (as in motorcycle) trips out to the pawnee grasslands. Lots of straight and relatively deserted roads (cn you say top speed run?), but again, to really get to the buttes, expect gravel roads. Not many twisties.
Deer creek is always fun, but I know the Boulder area roads alot better.
I have to be in Boulder at 7:30 a.m. anyway to drop someone off at the RTD, so I might be up for an earlier start if others wanted to as well...
Second Creek is having MRA (motorcycle roadracing association) races this weekend. Fun to watch, lots of Honda's, but no S2000's!
