I take it you work for Maxtor? How far up the chain are you? It's unlikely you'll lose your job unless you take home an extensively large salary. They tend to want to cut those folks out during a merger. All isn't lost yet

Let's wait till the dust settles. I have REAL mixed emotions about the buy-out. But I think in the end, it will be a good thing for the combined company.

I don't think it will be quite that cut-n-dry. You can't merge two companies as large as Maxtor and Seagate and not lose a lot of people. That's how combined companies "save" - and in this case they expect to save about $300 million in operating expenses the first year after the merge.

A lot of Quantum people were let go when Maxtor bought them 4 years ago - and now it will happen at Maxtor to much the same extent.

Probably little/no effect for quite some time.

If you have been happy with "M", keep buying them. If you have been happy with "S", start buying "M".

Yup, from the articles, looks like Seagate bought Maxtor for the market share and revenue, and plans on significant cost cutting to improve overall profitability...
