Default Winter tire sizing

Hey, i've been thinking of buying a set of winter tires for my car. Just wondering if i can get away with using a 225/55/16 rear tire instead of the 50 series that is standard. Wondering if it should make any real difference? Thanks.

It'll change your speedo reading slightly (by about 10% lower*) and the car will feel just a little bit more sluggish on dry roads. It's like changing your final gearing.

*Meaning, if you are showing 50 kph on the speedo, you will actually be going 55 kph. Your odo will be similarly affected.
