Default Soft top tearing - Ian's big adventure

Background:

My s2000 soft top has a small tear in it on one side and another one forming on the idential spot on the other side. My car is a 2002 with 131,000 km on it and is in excellent shape other than a small paint issue on the front bumper. I read up on many many people on www.s2ki.com having a similar problem and that 50% had it taken care of free of charge as a "defect" and 50% not getting anywhere with honda.

While i expect some "wear and tear" it appears as though this is being caused by a slightly rough edge on the soft top's frame that folds down and over time has worn this space in a manner that accelerates the issue.

Pics to follow

-----------------------------------------------------
Day 1- 3/25/08 - called honda care canada, told me to call a local dealership for inspection.
- left message for service manager at millwoods honda*

*car is from the us originally but i have bought a car from millwoods so i thought it would be my best bet. PM me if you honda insiders can assist me more than this:> thanks!

im curious to see how this works out.

holy, do you live in that thing

also, ever considered a hardtop? If honda offered to pay to replace the entire top, with the parts and labour involved you could just upgrade to a hardtop.

It's funny you mention that. He had a hardtop already and sold it. I believe he didn't really like the hardtop.

BTW Ian, i have the same issue. But the tears are still quite small, so i'm just gonna patch behind them. My car came from the US too and i don't want to bother fighting with a dealership over it. Although i predict you may have better luck than i would since you bought the car from Millwoods Honda.

I had a hardtop but you cant put it down when you want...boring. Although i do want one for lapping now.

i got the car with 115,000km on it 2 yrs ago and actually dont drive it that much.

US car it is...

all im expecting is a reasonble explaination or replacement. It is quite evident that the wear is from the "coarse" metal frame.

this is not "normal wear and tear" but a defect IMO.

haha...will see....

if honda knows there is defect, they will release a serivce bulletin, and usually will give a time frame for the "defect" bulletin ...like 3yrs/60k most things, 5yrs/100k for powertrain....

even for a known problem if u r out of warranty, u r out......like i've seen a guy with MY00 came in for the clutch disk making noise, there is a bulletin for it for the springs in the clutch disk being loose and will make noise on decel.....the guy had about only 70k on the car...but the bulletin only covers up to 5yrs/100k...so the guy was out by time, so no warranty for the guy......

nothing personal Ian...but in this case...3yrs/60k for softtop...ur car is MY02 i think? so out by time, u have 135k on the car, so u r out by milage too....plus it's a US vehicle.....i can already picture what they r gonna tell u.....and for sure would be a conversation about this case in the lunch room tomorrow.........

maybe ur best bet is go to sherwood park honda if they are even open....they are so new, they want customers bad....so they might suck it up....

nothing personal, don't get mad at me....i guess we'll find out the result tomorrow
