Actually Southern Saskatchewan is quite lovely. Like Drumheller's badlands but with grass all over...

Looks beautiful. How was the skiing?

Actually, I have no idea. I didn't even notice those things when the pix were taken. Perhaps it's for measuring the amount of snow on the ground?
