Default Oil on sale

Canadian Tire has Pennzoil Platinum Full Synthetic (5W30) on sale for $25 bucks per 5L jug this week. That's 45% off, so a pretty strong deal for a decent synthetic oil. I run 5W30 for the better low-temp protection on the engine so if you're doing anything similar, drive over and grab a few while they're cheap.

I had previously bought it at Wal-Mart for roughly the same price but in a smaller jug (4.73L, I think).

I just got my monthly PartSource email - Mobil1 is also on sale there for $36.50 per jug. They also have Royal Purple jugs on sale too. I've never used it - anyone?

stay away from Mobil 1. I've actually wem using the pennzoil platinum 10w-30 for a few years now (good pricing and always on sale somewhere) with good results so far.

Mobil 1 has been known to be a little problematic for the S

Have any links about that? I've been using Mobil1 in my S2000 for five years, and no problems. I use it in my Mercedes too.

Mobil 1 has been downgraded for a few years now. The original stuff was pretty good but the new stuff apparently isn't as good. I used it in my last S2000 for quite a while with no problems but I was changing the oil ever 4-6K kms as well, so pretty much ANY oil would have been fine.

Royal Purple is a great oil - I'd have no problem putting it in any of my vehicles.

I change religiously every 5000km as well, on my S2000 and on my AMG. The LR3 I leave to 6000km on the recommendation of my buddy who is a Land Rover mechanic. I don't always change filters though - I leave those on every other oil change for the AMG and LR3, as those two vehicles actually specify 12,000-15,000km intervals, which I just don't trust. I have a very short commute, so I just change the oil. It's still relatively cheap for the peace of mind.

Exactly my mindset. In Texas, I could do an oil + filter change (with Mobil 1 synthetic) for under $30, using an OEM filter and getting the Mobil 1 from Wal-Mart. That only meant one extra oil change a year, which is nothing compared to peace of mind. Here in Canada, it's at least a $40 oil change, give or take, but that's still not bad at all. Plus, I have the Fumoto valve on my car so I don't even have to get dirty - I can do it all from above the engine.
