the 06's have been redesigned, but the coupe version. I am in love with this style.
The problem is... it is red, and one of the hardest colours to maintain. The german cars have a softer clear coat that north american vehicles, so just looking at it, it scratches.

Congratulations! Having owned my X3 for almost two years now, I too have developed a soft spot for BMW.
Their quality however,(in my opinion at least) is not up to the standard I was used to in my S2000, and other Japanese cars I have owned. The paint is a little thinner as you say, and from frequenting the Bimmer forums, these cars often have their electronic quirks (thankfully, I've had none).
That said, who can resist the sound of that thrumming I6, as well as all the neat little goodies that BMW throws in such as their "ambience lighting" and the premium leather seating that is far better quality than that offered by Honda and Toyota.
