Brian, our soon to be new resident - you may not get it now, but perhaps in the coming months you will!

Thanks for sharing the video. I'll be moving the first week of March. How's the McConachie Area?

Wow, I had to look up where McConachie is! Deep north side I see, not very far from the army base (as the crow flies). Maybe you'll hear helicopters once in a while! I don't know the area at all, can't say I've been up there, but I get the feeling it is one of the newer communities that have sprung up in the past 5 years or so. Being on that side of town also means you should really bring your S2000 out - as it is quite close to Fort Saskatchewan and Stratotech Park, our own little race track out there - if it'll still be in use anyway...

Quite close to the Henday, but also that section of the Henday is the last portion to be completed (the last major building project is a bridge over the river). So whilst you have easy access to the north and western quadrants of the Henday, you don't to the east and southern portions, ie. you'd have to go the long way around counterclockwise, or take non-freeway routes.

Living in that area is going to be a bit of a trek to drive downtown (probably not comparable to Washington, DC traffic though), but you can probably park and ride at one of the LRT stations further south towards the centre of the city.

I made in to Edmonton on Sunday. Got a rental townhome in Terwillegar Towne. The area was recommended by many people I've met and it was really hard finding a place in downtown that allowed a dog.

Hope to run into you guys during the summers or any of you working downtown.

Enjoy the commute... but a decent area, lots of friends live there. Be sure explore Terwillegar dog park nearby and the river valley. You might want to consider LRT from century park.

Any recommendations for TV & internet provider if I had to choose between Shaw or Telus?

I believe that Telus typically makes you sign a multi year contract, but Shaw does not - might prove useful in your situation.

I have an older Shaw digital HD PVR, and the on-screen interface isn't as modern or as nice looking as Telus'. Other than that though, pretty much the same content. There are likely good incentives with either provider for new sign ups, so you can shop for the best bargain.

BTW, did you get snow tires?

I am able to do month to month with both. I just lose out on incentives from Telus (i.e. free 40" TV, XBox, laptop). Just want the most reliable provider.

I have Dunlop WinterSports 3D on my daily vehicle. Not driving it much since I am staying in a hotel in downtown on the same block as my office. After driving through the roads here I don't think I'll bring my S2K up. Maybe I'll keep an eye out for a Miata.

How's Edmonton treating you so far? I take it you were already around during the last week's snow dump.
Your situation is interesting because I went the reverse way. I left in the mid 80s for college and settled here (US) after graduating.
I come home at the end of spring to visit my mother and the rest of the family.

Been contemplating on moving back to BC (Greater Van Area) once my kids are in college and we're empty nesters.

BTW, welcome to Edmonton.

hmm, 105 and Jasper, got a good feeling what's there but I digress.

Enjoy Canada!
